Virtual event tackles racism

An upcoming panel discussion will feature local perspective's on the topic "What is Anti-Blackness?"
The event will be presented live online from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9.
"This panel will feature the voices of a recent student, an educator, an activist, and a member of law enforcement who will share their experiences and knowledge to help us to understand 'What is Anti-Blackness' and how we can combat it in our community," said Whitney Mittons, Kankakee Community College coordinator of equity, diversity and inclusion. She will moderate the event.
The panelists will be Samaria Rosenthal, a former KCC student; Jessica Oladapo, M.A., KCC assistant professor of sociology; Travis Miller, organizer of several local Black Lives Matter marches; and Willie Hunt, City of Kankakee deputy police chief.
"As we all witness civil unrest globally and in our own community, we must come together for courageous conversation about race, racism, and where to go from here," Mittons said.
