Dr. John Avendano, KCC’s president, received a resolution from the Illinois House of Representatives honoring his commitment and service to higher education.
State Rep. Lindsay Parkhurst presented the resolution at the KCC Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 11. It named many of Avendano’s accomplishments.

The resolution mentions Avendano’s leadership through an unprecedented state budget impasse of two years, his advocacy for Monetary Assistance Program (MAP) funding for students and appropriations for community colleges, and his representation of KCC and Illinois Community Colleges to legislators in Springfield.
At KCC, he added new academic programs, successfully implemented two strategic plans, and opened campus facilities. KCC also celebrated two national championships and the college’s 50th anniversary during his tenure.

“It was truly an honor to have received such a thoughtful acknowledgement for my career,” said Dr. John Avendano, KCC president. “I’m so appreciative of everything that has come my way.”

Avendano is retiring from KCC at the end of June after serving as president for 10 years.
