Feed the Need Food Drive at KCC

Posted On: 10/21/26

The Feed the Need Campus Food Drive is underway and we need your help! For the third year, Illinois community colleges are coming together to collect nonperishable food items for students experiencing food insecurity. Let’s show what the KCC community can do by filling our collection boxes and helping KCC compete for the statewide win.

From interactions with students, KCC Police Officer Morgan Golden knows first-hand that small and steady contributions can help.

“During the holiday it is not just about the presents you have to shop for and wrap,” said Officer Golden. “Sometimes, people simply need something to eat, and we have students right here at KCC who need our help. When I grocery shop each week, I pick up a few extra items for the pantry.”

It doesn’t take a huge contribution to make a difference. Pick up a few extra cans or pantry staples during your next grocery trip and drop them in one of the Feed the Need collection boxes so our donations are counted toward the state-wide competition.

Where to Donate

Look for Feed the Need collection boxes at these locations on KCC's Riverfront Campus, 100 College Drive in Kankakee:

  • Outside the Student Life Office (Room L116)
  • At the Public Safety Desk (first floor, near the Library)
  • Outside Room L355
  • Outside the Food Pantry (Room D321)

Mark Your Calendar: The Final Collection Day is Monday, November 30!

Let’s fill those boxes, support our fellow Cavaliers and show Illinois what KCC can do! A few extra items from each of us can add up to a big impact.

Feed the Need is fighting hunger

Food insecurity is a real challenge for many college students. Recent studies estimate that as many as 39% of community college students nationally experience food insecurity. Initiatives like Feed the Need help ensure students have access to food while they work toward their educational goals.

Organized by the Illinois Community College Board, this statewide initiative combines friendly competition with an important mission. Last year, Illinois community colleges collectively donated more than 91,000 food items to support students and families across the state.
