Let's move beyond small talk

This is a message from KCC’s Culture of Caring Committee:

People develop a greater sense of belonging when they have opportunities to share their stories. Being heard reinforces personal value, connection, and community.

Here’s the challenge: Move beyond small talk. Initiate one genuine conversation each week by asking questions such as:

  • What brought you to KCC?
  • Why did you choose to study or work at KCC?
  • What are you studying or hoping to learn?
  • What career are you preparing for?
  • What area of the college do you work in?
  • What’s something you’re excited about right now?
  • What is something you hope to accomplish while you’re at KCC?

By doing this, you aren’t just transforming someone else’s day—you can deepen your own sense of belonging. When we choose to look up, reach out, and truly see one another, we build a college culture where no one is a stranger.

Thank you for bringing your kindness, your presence, and your voice to KCC! Let’s make this our shared commitment: to ensure that every single person who walks our halls knows they belong here.
